Tasmania is the only island state of Australia. It is located to the south of the mainland, in the infamous latitudes of the "Roaring 40's !" Being surrounded by water and with wind aplenty, it is no wonder that sailing is a popular sport in the state.

The Kingston Beach Sailing Club is located on the western bank, near the mouth of the Derwent River in the suburb of Kingston, about 10 kilometres south of Hobart. The township was initially a weekend getaway for the citizens of Hobart, and so leaisure activities like sailing were very popular.
