The Shaving Brush has been tied to resemble an emerging nymph, floating just in the surface film as the wings are about to open, and is a huge favourite amongst local anglers and guides.
This fly has taken many, many fish in the Tasmanian Highlands, and is best fished to rising fish which are feeding on nymphs.

Material:

1.  Wind the thread in touching turns to the bend of the hook.

2.  Tie in a tail of hackle fibres equal in length to about 2/3 of the length of the hook shank.

3.  Select a small bunch of deer hair and after stacking, tie it in at the 2/3 point with the tips pointing a distance of about 2/3 of the length of the hook shank over the front of the hook

4.   Return the thread to the bend of the hook tying in a length of oval tinsel as you go. Tinsel is preferred rather than wire because the extra weight of the wire may sink the fly.

5.  Dub on a thin body all the way to the 2/3 point.

6.  Pick up the tinsel and wind it along the body of the fly forming 4 or 5 segments.

7.  Tie off the tinsel and trim the loose end.

8.  Tie in two peacock herls at the 2/3 point.
