History![]()
Our family
started decorating our house with window and yard displays in 1993. This
display was very basic and outdoor lights were not readily available in
Tasmania. Last year in 1998, we had the garden , house and 6 windows in our
house each decorated in a different theme.
Many of
the themes centre around the hand made porcelain doll and old toy collection.
The dolls and bears made and dressed through the year are done so with a
particular Christmas theme in mind.
Over
the last couple of years, most houses in our small street have begun decorating
also and this adds to the festive spirit.
As the
beginning of December approaches every year, we see a steady stream of cars
come down our usually very quiet street to see if our display is ready for
viewing.
Each
window display takes approximately two weekends to set up with the outside
requiring approximately the same amount of time. The house begins to undergone
transformation from early October and past experience has taught us that the
order in which such a mammoth task is undertaken is quite important.
The joy
it brings to young and old is well worth the many long hours of hard work in
setting up and supervising each night for the month of December.

This window was the first one
that we did. It had the total doll collection up to that point in it. We have
come a long way since then. |
