The best of
both National Parks…
This tour
combines a gentle lightweight backpacking trek, using tent based camp, with day
walks from well presented cabin based accommodation. It incorporates the
spectacular Walls of Jerusalem National Park and Cradle Mountain environs. The
opportunity to experience two contrasting wilderness areas is offered.
For party members
in and out of the Walls of Jerusalem will entail carrying full backpack for 4
or 5 hours on two days. For the excursions, to contain essentials, a day pack
only is used. Provision of all equipment and complete catering are components
of this all-inclusive tour. Outfitting completed we depart for a two hour road
journey. After lunch we commence the walk to a tent based camp at the heart of
the Walls of Jerusalem. Set in a unique sub alpine wilderness, formed by time
and glaciation, for the next two days we offer the choice of exploring near at
hand, to hike farther afield and to ascend to higher places with far-reaching
views. We may choose to skyline one of the mountain ranges with the reward of
unparalleled photographic opportunity.
The Central
Plateau of Tasmania contains over 4,000 lakes, making the landscape unique in
Australia. Of special interest, we see the largest known forest of Pencil Pine,
a rarity of ancient trees a thousand years and more in age.
On the fourth day we
depart to road terminus probably traversing in part a route different from the
inward journey. After lunch meet transport for a 1½ hour
travel to Cradle Valley and comfortable cabin accommodation with hot showers
and facilities. Dine in style. In the evening native animals capture attention.
At Cradle
Mountain National Park plateau and mountain peaks dominate a valley endowed
with lakes and tarns. There is an abundance of alpine plants, temperate rain
forest, tumbling streams and picturesque waterfalls. Within the capability of
the average person and according to party preference, there are numerous
choices for walks of greater or lesser extent.
A climb to the
summit of Cradle Mountain 1545 metres or other high places is offered. Guides,
both male and female, provide skilled leadership and interpretation. Making
most of time on the final day, we plan a walk to an area not yet visited or
choose to have a relaxing morning. Generally, after lunch depart 1.30 p.m.
