ROSTER DUTIES: It is your responsibility to arrange a replacement.

Meeting 1669 held Wednesday 14th June 2006

Sue-Anne Gunton – My Vocation

Sue-Anne is an Occupational Health and Safety Officer with Hydro Tasmania.  She grew up and went to school in New Town and was a keen guider.  Sue-Anne is a mother of four children and founder of a company, recently sold, that had over 100 employees.  Sue-Anne was an international student adviser with TAFE and has enjoyed taking Asian students around the state.

At Hydro, the catch-cry relating to safety is ‘No harm to anyone at any time’.  To achieve this goal every new employee and contractor must undergo a safety induction the level of which relates to the work environment.  There are Planned General Inspections to review the work place as well as Safe Act Observations.

Employees are encouraged to think safe and there is an Employee Award system.  Emergency Evacuations are practiced at all sites.  Everyone is encouraged to be safety conscious through Job Safety Analysis.  For instance on long journeys fatigue and driver alertness is reduced by directing that no one is allowed to drive more than 2hrs without taking a break.  In addition, passengers assume the role of Travel Observers and the organization expects to receive observations on all levels of employee.  Sometimes there has been a challenge getting observers to comment on the performance of their supervisors but this barrier is constantly being worked on.

Program

Monday 19th June: Pre-change over board meeting at the home of incoming President Michael

21st June: Military Museum 6.30pm to 7.30pm followed by a meal at Bridie O’Rieley’s.

28th June: Club Assembly / Workshop / Get to know your new club structure and brainstorm with the chairperson and other members of the committee to which you’ve been allocated

5th July: Change over dinner.  This is a partner’s night and a celebration of Rotary.  Guest Una Hobday  will speak about her Rotary experiences.   Each member is requested to invite a friend and their partner to the dinner (prospective Rotarian or otherwise).   Please give this early consideration as the caterer needs to be informed well in advance of the numbers.

12th July: Vanessa Goodwin – The U Turn Project.

Sunday 15th October: Shannon’s Car Show  PLEASE NOTE THIS DATE IN YOUR DIARY and try not to double book it as this major fund raiser needs as ‘many hands on deck’ as possible.   As this event grows in stature, the assistance of partners with the barbeque is vital to the success of the day.

25th October: Club Assembly – show bag filling.

To ensure that the club remains topical for you, if you become aware of any potential speakers please bring this to the attention of President Lewis.

Special Rotary International Observances

THE FOUR WAY TEST

First                 Is it the truth?

Second            Is it fair to all concerned?

Third                Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

Fourth              Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
