Life ~ Cherish It

Take Heart ~~ In Troubled Times

Thank you all - my cyber friends - for being there for me recently as my
hubby and I were going through our own patch of despair,
your support was greatly appreciated

28th March 2001

Today my husband and I came home from visiting a cancer specialist, perhaps to say
we came on wings would be more like it.
After radiation treatment for his lungs he was now clear of the cancer.
For the first time in 4 months I have just cried a bucketful - I guess it is needed
but isn't it strange - how when all is well - we seem to let go.

Let me tell, you - it has not been easy and we all have to find our own way of coping.
For me - I had to keep life going for us both, this includes being a bully at times
so he would not sink into depression and feel very sorry for himself.
It would have been very bad to suddenly fuss around him.
You have to be strong and not give in yourself
because this will not help at all.

I would like to share with you a couple of sheets given to us at the hospital.
They helped me tremendously, and I hope they can give hope to others.

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
And the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and debts are high,
And you have to smile, but you want to cry,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with it's twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about.

When he might have won had he stuck it out,
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow,
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds in doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Life is full of ups and downs -
Happiness, sadness, smiles and frowns,
But whatever you do, lift up your chin
And never, never think of giving in.

The road of life can be very rough -
You must show that world you can be tough
Whatever you do, lift up your chin
And never, never think about giving in.

People may hurt you and shut you out
But that is what life is all about.
When life for you looks so grim,
Never, never think of giving in.

The winter is cold and nothing will grow.
The summer is warm and that's how we know
Life has its seasons, its ups and downs,
Its smiles and heartaches, its tears and frowns.
But whatever you do, lift up your chin
And never, never think about giving in.

If your are very sick and told you could die,
You keep asking the question "Why me? Why?"
Always face life with a grin
And never, never think of giving in.
