It contains a number of beneficial fungii which enhance plant growth. Sphagnum Moss is used extensively in Orchid culture, particularly in tropical climates.
Austmoss has over 20 years experience in Sphagnum Moss harvesting and management. All the export production is from regenerated Sphagnum Moss grown in clean, pollution free environment of Central Tasmania.
Austmoss has been exporting Sphagnum Moss for about 8 years. We have supplied sphagnum moss to Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong and the USA. Sphagnum Moss is supplied in 20 foot containers of 500 3kg bales of export grade Sphagnum Moss.
AUSTMOSS supplies five grades of Sphagnum Moss to Australian customers:
Export Grade: is first quality sphagnum moss which has been hand cleaned to remove twigs and leaves from the sphagnum moss before packing.
Long Strand: is sphagnum moss with a predominant strand length of 100mm or more. Long strand moss is used for hanging baskets, fern displays, orchids ect.
Special Grade: is second class sphagnum moss that has been shredded by a purpose built machine. The strands are up to 5cm long. This moss also contains some organic materials. This moss is ideal for orchid & fern mixes where shorter lengths of moss are desireable. This grade of moss also contains fines (laterals broken off the stems).
Milled Moss: is sphagnum moss that has been hammer milled to a fine consistency, not unlike peat moss, It is ideal for potting mixes, striking back bulbs and for packing of bulbs & ect. This grade of moss is ideal for deflasking orchids.
Wet Moss:is sphagnum moss as harvested from the bog. The sacks are polypropylene. The sphagnum moss is rammed into these sacks on the bog and closed with two wool pack staples. The moss is harvested in clumps. The strands are long and parallel in the clumps. There are of course some twigs and leaves in this moss. The sacks are strapped 12 to a skid for delivery.
AUSTMOSS supplies Sphagnum Moss in a variety of pack sizes to suit customer requirements.
